Stay off the Sidewalks!

Yesterday was Stu's birthday. 16th birthday. Camp Helaman (a special camp scheduled for young men 16 and over that focuses on mission preparation and service) was scheduled for Wed, Thurs, and Fri, which meant Stu would be at camp on his magic birthday. He has been at camp every year on his birthday since he was 12. Usually that's not a problem, except for when a young man wants to have his driver's license.

Enter the mom. With a plan. A plan that would get said young man said driver's license, without sacrificing his attendance at Camp Helaman. Being the mom, I went to the Driver's License department and picked up the application the day before, noted (carefully) the business hours for said department, and "suggested" to my darling son the following: "You want your license. They want you at Camp Helaman. I want peace and harmony and not murmuring. So how about this plan: We fill out the application, combine it with the required documentation (which is a flippin' joke, by the way...it doesn't stop illegals, it just makes it ridiculous for the rest of us...), and be there at the magic hour of 7:00 am to get the license without the wait so we can get you back to Camp Helaman."

Stu was unaware that such a time existed, let alone that people actually FUNCTION at that hour, but he was so excited to get his license that he agreed. I also notified the member of the bishopric (my brother, Bret) that he would be just a titch late to the camp activities so that he could take care of important, nay, VITAL, sixteen year old business.

Success! We were there by 7:00 am, had all the required information, and were in and out and back to the church with my son (changed into missionary attire) by 7:40. Remarkable. Yay! Mission accomplished! No pun intended.

Oh, and he's been gone for all of two days, and I'm missing him like crazy. I don't want to know what it will be like when he's actually gone on his mission!
